I was born on exotic island of Oahu, Hawaii as an Air Force brat. I spent the next first 14 years of my life exploring half the globe with my family. I have seen the Orient, half the States, and most of Europe. It was from these amazing worldly experiences that my love for learning grew. That translated into writing for me. I like to take what’s right around me and channel that into a piece of work. It makes my writing authentic, relatable, and honest. I currently live in Northern California, and I work as an elementary school teacher. Most of my characters are birthed by the colorful and spontaneous things my students say and do. At times, I make an amalgam of several students to create a character with some interesting strengths and quirks. Other times, I brainstorm with my students and ask for their input, “Does this sound right? Where would you like to go? Would you do that? What would you do?” I read books and watch movies and say how could I make that different, more light hearted or dark. These events and ideas help and challenge me in my writing.
